5MILA
High intensity cold weather activities demands specific traits. Wind-proof, high breathability and temperature insulation must play a balanced role – which we are solving through fabric use and design. We test these garments in high activity on the coldest days in the forest around Oslo – the test is to sweat hard and then see what happens when you stop for a break.
IN THE WARDROBE / AFTER USE
Hang your garments out for airing, instead of washing them every time. When you need to wash, follow our step by step guide:
WASHING YOUR ITEMS
STEP 1
› Close all zippers and velcro’s before putting the garment in the washing machine.
› As a rule, it is essential not to use fabric softener. It will destroy the fabric over time.
› Do not bleach
STEP 2
› Stretch the garment carefully after washing to retain the shape.
› Air drying’s mandatory for the fabric and preferred by the environment.
RE-WAX WAXED COTTON PANELS
The waxed cotton panels used on 5Mila is an ultra-dry waxed cotton with the added benefit of being machine washable. A dry wax should not be re-waxed. To optimize the product ́s abilities, it should be water repellency treated after each wash, or when the water repellency is not performing optimally.
WATER REPELLENCY TREATMENTS
Over time, the water repellency will be worn away. This will take place especially in vulnerable places like the seat, knees, shoulders, and elbows. To optimize the product ́s abilities, it should be treated after each wash, or when the water repellency is not performing optimally. For water repellency treatments, we recommend the use of environmentally friendly water repellents. Spray treatment ensures that only the outer side of the garment will be water repellent, which optimizes the moisture transportation of the product.
REPROOFING
The results of reproofing with ironing is that the impregnation is reactivated at medium heat and ready for new adventures. The chains of molecules of the fluorocarbon finish return to their original condition through the heat treatment generated by the ironing process. Water droplets or dirt particles then have a significantly smaller contact area on the fabric and this greatly reduces their adhesive strength. Water and dirt are once more repelled.
REPROOFING STEP BY STEP
STEP 1
› Wash your garment according to the care label
› Close all zippers and velcro’s before putting the garment in the washing machine.
› As a rule, it is essential not to use fabric softener since it will destroy the fabric over time.
STEP 2
› Dry the jacket according to the care label, and then test the DWR by sprinkling or spraying water on the shoulders, waist, and back.
STEP 3
› Iron on low heat (1 Point is recommended, without steam). It’s important to use a thin kitchen towel between the iron and the fabric during the ironing.
